What browser do I need?
You need Netscape Navigator 4.0 or higher, or Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher.
Can I use the America Online browser?
Although you can use America Online (AOL) to establish a connection to the Internet, we recommend that you do not use the AOL browser to access the campus. The AOL browser does not support some of the advanced features required by the online campus. If AOL is your Internet Service Provider (ISP) you can use the AOL browser to download Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer, and then use the new downloaded browser to access the campus.
If you use AOL as your ISP to access the campus or download a new browser, remember that AOL displays a prompt every 45 minutes, asking if you want to stay connected. If you don't respond to this prompt within 10 minutes, AOL drops your connection, even if you're using the connection at the time. You should look for this prompt every few minutes to avoid being disconnected from the Internet prematurely.

How can I get a new browser?
Use the browser you currently have installed to go to www.netscape.com to download the most recent version of Netscape Navigator. Once you see the Netscape home page, follow the links to download a copy of Netscape Navigator.
To download the most recent version of Microsoft Internet Explorer, go to www.microsoft.com and follow the links to download a copy of Internet Explorer.
Both the Netscape and Microsoft download areas include instructions on how to install the browser after you have finished downloading it. You should print these instructions so you can refer to them during the installation process.
I push a button in my browser window and nothing happens.
When you push a button the campus often displays a new window, called a secondary window, to show you some additional information. The secondary window appears on top of your original window. You can interact with the secondary window and then close it to return to your original window and pick up where you left off.
Some browsers (most notably certain versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer) do not always place the secondary window on top of the original window. As a result, when you push a button, the secondary window may be hidden behind your original window. If your original window is too large, you may not see the secondary window hiding behind it. Try minimizing your original window. This should allow you to see the secondary window. Note: if you're using Windows 95, an icon for the secondary window should appear on the Task bar. Click on the icon to bring the secondary window to the top.
