How We Got Here
Our core product, the Leadership Essentials series, was born from the largest management study ever done at the time, which explored the fundamental skills managers need to be successful. The original curriculum was built by the training division of the McGraw-Hill Publishing Company in the 1980’s. When McGraw-Hill sold its training division in February 1989, Vital Learning was formed.
Although a lot has changed since McGraw-Hill laid the foundation for our products, one thing has remained consistent: We continuously strive to find more effective, impactful and engaging means and methods to deliver our courses.
In 1996, Vital Learning was among the first U.S. training companies to successfully convert its training programs to CD-ROM format complete with video and accompanying workbooks, which began an era of blended learning. Then, in 1998, Vital Learning followed this innovation, when it delivered all of its courses over the Internet with full-motion video, enabling greater flexibility and accessibility for clients.
In 2012, we again found ourselves on the leading edge of the training industry with the release of our mobile application, Vital Learning Pocket Coach for Supervisors, launching a new trend in delivering and consuming training content.
In January 2016, Vital Learning launched an overhauled Leadership Essentials series online and classroom courses, which received 5 awards (including a prestigious “Stevie” award) during the year. These new courses became among the first among soft skills training to utilize responsive design (optimized for any device), micro-learning modules, high-definition video scenarios, and a free reinforcement app.
In 2019, we launched VitalPass - the ultimate blended learning subscription solution - along with a new Learning Management System.
In 2020, we rolled out The Leadership Essentials online courses for Foodservice which was the result of months of industry research and expert interviews. We also updated the example scenarios in our other industry-specific offerings to achieve a higher level of congruency and relatability within the courses.
Due to the global pandemic in 2020, we developed brand-new VILT (virtual instructor led training) resources to our facilitator guides, allowing our clients to run successful training sessions to their remote teams.

This means continuing to stay ahead and innovating to deliver (over-deliver) in an ever-evolving world.
