Increased Productivity: Penn National Insurance
Implementing Vital Learning’s Vital Productivity course helped Penn National Insurance to increase the productivity of their Commercial Lines Processing department.
Penn National Insurance sells property-casualty insurance and surety bonds through independent agents in nine states, selling through more than 750 independent insurance agencies. The company ranks in the top 10 percent of the more than 1,000 U.S. property-casualty insurance groups. Penn National Insurance was founded in Harrisburg, Pa., in 1919, by a farmers’ association that was dissatisfied with the high cost of workers’ compensation insurance. Within a few years, the company began offering other types of insurance and quickly grew into a full-service provider.
Penn National Insurance discovered the Vital Learning Number Skills training program when the company was looking for a way to increase the accuracy and efficiency of the data entry employees in its Commercial Lines Processing department. These employees are required to work with and keep track of many different types of numbers (VIN and account numbers, phone numbers, addresses, etc.) all while continuously switching between multiple windows on their computers.
As a result, it is vital that the Commercial Lines Processing employees are able to accurately and quickly enter data. The capacity to accurately remember multiple digit numbers saves time and eliminates mistakes, which can cost the company significant amounts of money.
According to Lennie Whitcomb, Manager of Employee Development, the feedback from managers and team leaders has been extremely positive. They have reported significant improvement from team members, seeing a 33% reduction in processing time. Data that would take one minute for team members to process prior to the Number Skills training are now being processed in 40 seconds.
